Teammate Roy Martin recalls how NJ loved to fly
as much as he and others loved to jump.
The relationship was a perfect marriage of
skills and interests.
Mr Martin also recalls that NJ had
"ice water"
in his veins. He was cool under pressure, and
an important factor in the
early success of the team. He flew the team in the "good old days when we lived on the cutting edge doing jumps that had never been done before", and where flight & landing areas were often unique and challenging.
Aviator, Dedicated Servicemen, Team Player
In the early days of the Golden Knights, the aviators and other support personnel were not always recognized as part of the "Team".
The jumpers had the spotlight and the acclaim.
Nevertheless, NJ was always a team player.
Although NJ left the team before the Aviator of the Year award
was initiated, his team mates believe he epitomizes the values
that define what it means to be an exemplary aviator and team mate.
We wish to recognize NJ for his accomplishments, his example,
and for setting the bar high for the
Golden Knights who worked with him
and those who came later.
All of which make him an outstanding aviator of ANY year.
