Sergeant Major Deveault was born May 14, 1956 in Ruislip, England. He enlisted in the regular Army in November 1974. He attended Basic Training at Ft. Jackson, South Carolina, Advanced Individual Training at Ft. Bliss, Texas, and Basic Airborne School at Ft. Benning, Georgia.

Since entering the service 28 years ago, Sergeant Major Deveault has held many leadership positions. He was assigned to the 3RD Battalion "Airborne", 4TH Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 82D Airborne Division, as a Vulcan crewmember, Senior Gunner, and Squad Leader from 1975 to 1981.

In 1981, Sergeant Major Deveault tried out and was selected as a member of the United States Army Parachute Team "THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS". From 1981 to 1987 Command Sergeant Major Deveault was a member of the world champion 4,8, and 10 member Relative Work Freefall Parachute Team, making 5050 parachute jumps and winning numerous medals for the Army.

In 1987, Sergeant Major Deveault was assigned to the 3RD Battalion, 6TH Air Defense Artillery, 1ST Armored Division. During this tour, he deployed to Desert Shield and Desert Storm. In 1991, he returned to Ft Bragg, North Carolina, where he was assigned as 1SG, Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 3RD Battalion "Airborne", 4TH Air Defense Artillery Regiment.

In 1995, Sergeant Major Deveault was selected to attend the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy. Upon graduation, he has held positions as both Battalion and Brigade Operations Sergeant Major in the 108th ADA Brigade, Battalion Command Sergeant Major of 1-62 ADA 25th Infantry Division (Light), Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, Brigade Command Sergeant Major 108th ADA Brigade, Ft Bliss, Texas.

Sergeant Major Deveault is a graduate of Basic Airborne School, 82D ABN Division Jumpmaster Course, BNCOC, ANCOC, the Infantry Noncommissioned Officers Advanced Course, Battle Staff Course, the Sergeants Major Academy Class 46, and the Command Sergeants Major Course.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal 7th Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal 6th Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Achievement Medal 3RD Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal 9TH award, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, South West Asia Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 4, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon with numeral 2, Kuwait Liberation Medal Saudi Arabia, Kuwait Liberation Medal Kuwait, Valorous Unit Award, Army Superior Unit Award, Master Parachutist Badge, German Parachutist Badge, and British Parachutist Badge. He has also been inducted into the Ancient Order of St. Barbara.
