Callahan, one of the more versatile jumpers on the Golden Knights,
joined the Army in 1955 after his graduation from high school. The
following year he received training as a military policeman and
was assigned to Germany, where he remained until 1959. After a number
of stateside assignments, he returned to Germany in 1965. In 1967
he went through airborne training in Germany and was assigned to
the 7th Army Parachute Team, which performs throughout Europe. The
following year he came to the Golden Knights. At 6-foot-7 easily
the tallest member of the Knights, Sergeant Callahan also was twice
a member of the all-Europe basketball team. Sergeant Callahan is
primarily a demonstration jumper who also has done research and
development work on new parachutes and air-to-air motion picture
photography.
